Day 26 of 31
No wood, no fire
For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.
Talk about it
A fire needs wood to keep burning. A fight needs gossip to keep going: people telling stories about other people. Stop adding wood, and the fight goes out. Telling a grown-up when someone is in trouble or getting hurt is different from gossip: that is getting help, and it is good.
Try it today
If you hear someone gossiping today, say something kind about that person instead.
Ask at dinner
What is gossip, and why does it make fights worse?
For the grown-up
Gossip is passing on things about someone that tear them down, true or not. The picture works well at a fireplace or campfire. Children often confuse gossip with telling a grown-up about a problem; make the difference clear: telling to get help is good.
